A Tribute to the Legend of Hank Williams

Hank Williams Sr. was one of America’s greatest and most prolific songwriters.  His impact on 20th century American music loomed large even before his death, at just 29 years of age, on January 1, 1953.  Hank's songs have influenced country music heroes like Johnny Cash, Merl Haggard & Willie Nelson as well as popular music icons like Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia & Bruce Springsteen.

The Hank Williams Sr. Show is a live musical review that includes performances of Hanks' most popular and important compositions, as well as some of his lesser known songs. The show is stitched together by a compelling narrative overview of career highlights, and historical information about the singers' life and times.

From his childhood days in Georgiana, Alabama where he first learned to play guitar from blues-man Rufus "Tea-tot" Payne, through to his untimely death in the wee hours of New Years Day 1953 en route to a scheduled performance in Canton, Ohio.

From his WSFA radio-show theme song "The Happy Roving Cowboy", through to his last release, with its haunting title "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive". This show is as educational & historical as it is spiritual & soulful.

Historical information for The Hank Williams Sr. Show was gathered largely from Colin Escott's re-released definitive biography entitled "I Saw the Light, the Story of Hank Williams", Back Bay Books, copyright 2004.

Additional sources include the albums "The Legend of Hank Williams in Song and Story" and "Insights into Hank Williams in Song and Story" with narrations by Hank Williams, Jr. (MGM Records, 1973, 1974), as well as "Hank Williams - The Original Singles Collection...Plus" which contains three CD's and 84 original Hank Williams' recordings and demos (PolyGram, 1990).
